How We Work with Anxiety
Anxiety is a core human emotion, not a disease. It’s our internal alarm system—essential for survival. Challenges arise when this system gets stuck in the “on” position, becomes overwhelming, or is so deeply buried that it goes unrecognized.
Our approach to anxiety therapy is multi-faceted. We provide psychoeducation to help clients understand when anxiety is adaptive and when it becomes maladaptive. We offer tools to manage panic, build a more trusting relationship with anxiety, and proactively reduce overall stress levels.
We also take a systems-based approach—looking at how family, work, social, and cultural environments contribute to chronic anxiety. Often, anxiety is a reasonable response to ongoing emotional or physical threats. In these cases, pathologizing the individual can do more harm than good.
If anxiety stems from unresolved trauma or painful life experiences, we support clients in processing and healing these wounds. For those who may benefit from medication, we collaborate closely with psychiatric providers and can offer referrals when appropriate.
